Lake Atitlan is the deepest lake in Central America with a depth of over 300m. It is surrounded by 3 volcanoes and is often referred to as one of the most beautiful lakes in the world.
We stayed in a couple of locations around the lake. First stop Panajachel, a very touristy town with Mayan heritage. Here we took a TucTuc tour of the town to learn about local life and check out some view points. One of the highlights was a chance to see local women doing their laundry in the lake. In the evening we had dinner and a cultural show to learn a little more about the Mayan way of life and traditions.
Our second stop was San Juan where we stayed with a local family in their home and got to visit different co-operatives running n the town from fabric dying and weaving to herbal medicine.
