Driving from the Fox Glacier to Queenstown we passed through Wanaka, Arrowtown and Cromwell.

Wanaka is a popular tourist destination with its lakes and mountains. It is also slap bang in the middle of the Otago wine region.

Arrowtown and Cromwell very much have that wild west frontier feel about them and play to this herritage to pull the tourists in. These towns grew up in the 1800’s when like in the US there was a gold rush which caused the population and economy to boom.
